Industries in Dehradun struggle to rise again due to low demand, labour shortage

Even as industries in Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun have restarted their work after state government allowed them to resume operations from first week of May, they are facing trouble in going back to pre-coronavirus time, as low demand and shortage of labour have made difficult for their businesses to rise again.

A bulb factory owner in Dehradun, Rajiv Aggarwal who is also the senior vice president in the Industries Association of Uttarakhand, said they were allowed to resumed operations from May 05 but they are working with only 80% labour as the rest of the staff are not able to come to work due to unavailability of public transport.

More than staff shortage, they are suffering from low demand as all the major markets like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai are reeling under the effects of coronavirus.

The same story was narrated by Hemant Kurej who runs a small enterprise of making drawing instruments.

Kurej said their wholesale markets in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and elsewhere has no demand currently, and they are running the factory only to stock up and keep the staff employed.
