U.S. Representative Al Green of Texas said on Tuesday that, in the wake of George Floyd's death, "we have got to have reconciliation" and called for the creation of a new government office to handle race relations with African Americans.

"It’s time for a Department of Reconciliation in the highest land, in the highest office.

It’s time to have someone who is going to make it his or her business to seek reconciliation for black people in the United States of America." Green, a Democrat who represents southwest Houston, also praised the recent introduction of the Justice in Policing Act by the Congressional Black Caucus, that would make it illegal for police officers to put a foot on someone’s neck.

Mourners gathered in Houston for the funeral of George Floyd at The Fountain of Praise Church.

Other guests at the service included Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Rev.

Al Sharpton, Attorney Benjamin Crump, Slim Thug, Leela James, Paul Wall, Floyd Mayweather, Bishop James Dixon, and others.
