Son adds washing up liquid to dad's treasured foundation

A horrified man thought the cherished family pet goldfish had perished after his prankster son filled his 'pride and joy' garden fountain with washing up liquid.

Lachie Scarsbrook, 22, has been taking part in daily challenges with his friends to beat their boredom during lockdown.

But unfortunate Charles Scarsbrook, 50, became the victim of his latest prank when Lachie filled the family's garden water fountain with washing up liquid.

Lachie's video shows him removing the family pet fish 'Coke' from the fountain and putting him in a tank before adding the soap solution to the water feature.

Masters student Lachie then hid in the garden to capture the moment Charles went to the fountain to feed the fish.

Unaware he was being filmed, Charles let out a hilarious stream of expletives, in his broad New Zealand accent.

Lachie, of Temuka, New Zealand, said: "The prank came about from an idea my dad actually planted in my head.

"He was worried one of the neighbours down the street - who is a bit of a prankster - was going to put bubbles in the fountain "During lockdown, my friends and I have been playing a kind of survivor style game where each day we had a new challenge that we had to do at home and film it.

"On this day, the challenge was to "pull the best prank on someone in your bubble", and the opportunity to make my dad's worst nightmare come to light was way too tempting!

"I was only hiding for about 10 minutes because being in lockdown for so many weeks you get to learn each other's timetables, and he would stick to his fish feeding regime religiously which was just before the 1pm national address from Jacinda.

"I was trying so hard to contain my laughter because anyone who knows my dad knows that reaction is so out of character.

"I was really hoping for an extreme response because I wanted to win the challenge, which I did!" Lachie said it took him three hours to clean the soap suds from the fountain - and he reassured everyone his pet fish 'Coke' is fine.

The zoology graduate, who studies at at the University of Otago, said: "My dad, who was slowly getting over the fact I had ruined his fountain, kept asking me about the view count and likes.

"I also wanna stress that the fish in the video is okay - I have been keeping fish for the past five years and have a degree in Zoology so people can sleep easy!" Charles, who co-owns a pottery company, bought the massive water feature a month before lockdown.

The video was filmed at the family home on April 27.
