From two more Union ministers testing positive, to hospital staff preventing a suicide bid by a patient - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. After Union Home minister Amit Shah and petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, MoS Heavy Industries Arjun Ram Meghwal, and MoS Agriculture Kailash Choudhary have tested positive for Covid infection. In Kolkata, hospital staff were able to stop a patient from jumping out after breaking a window pane with an oxygen cylinder. The Central government has asked state administrations to step up testing of grocery shop staff, and vegetable and fruit vendors, as they can potentially spread the virus to a large number of people. The southern state of Tamil Nadu has decided to reopen places of worship with some limitations from August 10. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh saw a massive jump in new cases with over 10,000 infections being reported on Saturday. India's total case tally has crossed the 20.88 lakh mark with over 42,500 deaths so far. While India has 6.19 lakh active cases, over 14.27 lakh patients have been discharged so far. In international news, some states in the United States of America have allowed schools to reopen even as the US remains the worst Covid-hit nation so far. Heavy rains have caused havoc in parts of Kerala. NDRF chief SN Pradhan spoke on the massive landslide that occurred in Idukki district. Pradhan informed that the death toll has climbed to 26 and as many as 39 people were still missing. "We recovered nine more bodies from mound of debris and slush. The death toll stands at 26 while 39 people are still missing. A total of 78 people were living in that colony. The operations will go on. Our commandant of the battalion Rekha is camping on the site and is supervising the rescue operations. As per the state government's requirements, nine teams will continue to work in flood and rain related incidents in Kerala," Pradhan said. On Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert in Kozhikode district. It had also predicted rainfall in different parts of the state. On Saturday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the monsoon fury continues to be severe in the state.

The death toll climbed to 26 in massive landslide that occurred in Kerala's Idukki district, informed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Directorate General, SN Pradhan. "With 9 more bodies recovered from the mound of debris and slush on Saturday (August 08), the casualties in the landslide at a tea estate near Rajamala in Idukki district in Kerala went up to 26 even as rescue personnel, braving inclement weather, continued their search for 39 missing people," SN Pradhan to ANI. The search and rescue operation still is underway.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) meeting to review oil well number Baghjan-5 fire situation in Assam's Tinsukia. Review meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Petroleum AND Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Experts have been called and efforts are going on to seal the well. "PM said that he stands with the people of Assam AND assured all steps for rehabilitation of the affected people," tweeted Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal.
RJD Leader and main opposition leader in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, on August 03 reacted on the current situation of Bihar Police in alleged suicide case of Sushant Singh Rajput by saying that the Bihar government is letting state police get insulted. Yadav sarcastically demanded state government to demand CBI enquiry in the case. "Centre and Home Ministry have all powers, they must intervene. This double-engine government should demand CBI inquiry and request Home Minister. It shouldn't be politicised, we're with Rajput's family," said Yadav. Yadav also slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar government in the Bihar Assembly over COVID-19 situation. He said that all the public representatives should go in their respective areas and review the situation with the officers and give right feedback to the state government.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued guidelines for Unlock 3.0 on July 29 for resumption of activities outside containment zones. Unlock 3.0 has came into effect from August 01. The gym owners are making sure that fitness equipments and machineries are getting properly sanitised. They are taking all necessary precautionary measures like maintaining social distancing, keeping a batch of 4-5 people at a time etc. All fitness centres are closed for nearly 4 months due to coronavirus pandemic. Now, this comes as a relief to several gym owners and fitness trainers who have been facing massive financial losses after having been shut since March.
India's Union Home minister Amit Shah tested positive for Covid-19 infection on August 2. He tweeted about the positive diagnosis, saying that he got tested after showing initial symptoms of the disease. The minister said that he was getting hospitalised on the advice of doctors, although he was feeling fine. Shah also appealed to people who met him recently to get tested. A day earlier, Shah had attended an event in honour of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak's 100th death anniversary. He was seen wearing a mask at the event in which he also gave a virtual address. Shah's ministry has been at the centre of managing the Covid pandemic in India, along with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been coordinating the implementation of first the lockdown, and now Unlock, with the various states and Union territories. India's Covid tally has reached 17.5 lakh with over 37,300 deaths so far. The country has over 5.67 lakh active cases of Covid infection.
