Traveling for July 4th - People's plans and opinions on if it's safe

July 4th weekend is one the busiest times of the year for travel.

People at the Love's service station on McCullough Blvd shared their plans for the weekend and if they feel public travel for the holiday weekend is safe.

Wtva's bronson woodruff visited a service station in tupelo to see what some people are doing for the weekend.

A lot of people are travelling right now, and some of them shared their plans, and how they feel about traveling during the pandemic.

We're just kind of in and out, doing what we need to do, and get back to our destination."

That's what a lot of travelers seem to be doing on their july 4th weekend.

People like david gentry are travling across states.

Gentry is moving from atlanta to oklahoma this weekend.

"we lost a job due to covid and found another one, so we were lucky to find something."

Gentry said he thinks people are generally safe travelling during the fourth, as long as they are careful about it.

"as long as you're taking precautions.

We're careful with the social distancing, and normally i'm wearing a mask."

The 4th is also a popular time for people to take vacations.

Jesse mccool is taking his family on vacation to hilton head island for the weekend.

"we're basically isolating on vacation."

He said each of them have masks, and added his family is prepared to stay safe, "we're very isolated, we have our own house, and we have all of our groceries in our car, we're not going to grocery stores, we're not going to any restaurants, we're not going out to any bars."

Some people are not traveling for the 4th.

People like tupelo resident sharon fulgham are staying home.

Fulgham uses a clorox wipe at the gas pump.

"it's gotta be super germy," she says she does it for good reason.

"i just don't want anybody else's germs on me, and surely clorox is gonna kill all that, right?"

All the people we talked with had varying opinions on whether or not it's safe to travel for the 4th, but whether or not it's safe to travel for the 4th, but collectively, they all agreed that proper precautions such as keeping your distance and wearing masks will help make for a safer independence day weekend.
