Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a rapid progress since the abrogation of Article 370. High-density plants provided by government helped growers to increase apple production in Kupwara. Growers are now demanding higher prices for their produce. With high density plants, growers can plant ten to twelve plants in one kanal of land. "Government should revise prices of our products so that we can involve more people in business and increase employment," said a grower.
Speaking to media persons on July 17, 9 Rashtriya Rifles Sector Commander (Kulgam), Brigadier VS Thakur, said the inputs suggest that terrorists are planning to target the Amarnath Yatra. "There are inputs that they (terrorists) would try their best to target the yatra. NH-44 continues to be sensitive because that is the route that the yatris would take to go up to the north routes," he said. "This operation has been conducted successfully 4 days before commencement of Amarnath Yatra. We want to send a message to locals that we remain committed to ensuring that Amarnath Yatra will be conducted peacefully without any hindrance," he said on the killing of three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in an encounter in Kulgam.
Three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in Kulgam encounter on July 17 in Jammu and Kashmir. Three soldiers were injured during the exchange of fire and were shifted to the Army Hospital. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions have been recovered.
Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Army's 38 Rashtriya Rifles on July 22 busted a terrorist hideout during a cordon and search operation in Rajouri's Thanamandi area. In a joint operation they recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area. They recovered 1 Pika gun, 1 Chinese Pistol, 168 Pika rounds, 47 AK rounds and 2 UBGL grenades recovered.

Brigadier Vijay Mahadevan, Commander of 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, informed about the Tral encounter in which three terrorists were neutralised. "Yesterday evening, we received a specific intelligence input from Jammu and Kashmir Police about the presence of unidentified terrorists in the village Chiwa near Tral," informed Brigadier Vijay Mahadevan. "Today morning when terrorists tried to escape from a house they were neutralised in the gunfight. We attempted to induce their surrender but they refused. 3 terrorists were neutralised today morning. During this entire operation no civilians were injured or harm," the Brigadier added. The encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Encounter took place at Chewa Ullar in Tral area of Awantipora on June 26.
