Bangladesh-India train service resumed after 43 years and other historical events | Oneindia News

The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama sailed from Lisbon in 1497 on a mission to reach India and open a sea route from Europe to the East.

... Two decades later, da Gama again returned to India, this time as Portuguese viceroy; he died there of an illness in late 1524.

After 42 years, direct passenger train journeys were resumed between Bangladesh and India.

The train carried government officials from India for the first time since 1965 when the train link was closed after the Indo-Pakistan war began.

Transport between India and Bangladesh bears much historical and political significance for both countries, which possessed no ground transport links for 43 years, starting with the partition of Bengal and India in 1947.

2013 : The Boeing 787 Dreamliner took its first long flight from Glasgow, Scotland to Cancun, Mexico.

The plane had been launched more than a year previously but had been plagued with problems.
