Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leaders paid tribute to former chief minister M Karunanidhi on his second death anniversary on August 07. DMK president MK Stalin paid homage to Karunanidhi. Party's MP Kanimozhi along with other leaders also paid tribute to the former Tamil Nadu chief minister. M Karunanidhi had the longest tenure as chief minister of Tamil Nadu and had served for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011.
Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh continue to lead the coronavirus caseload of the country. Maharashtra on August 06, reported 11,514 new COVID-19 cases, which took the total number of cases in the state to 4,79,779. While Andhra Pradesh, reported 10,328 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state reached 1,96,789 including 1,12,870 recoveries and 1,753 deaths. Karnataka also saw rise of 6,805 COVID-19 cases and 93 deaths in last 24 hours. 5,684 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Tamil Nadu and 110 deaths today.
Mariappan, a miniature artist from Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore made a figurine of Lord Ram using gold. He crafted the statuette ahead of Ram Temple 'Bhoomi Pujan' in Ayodhya. He said, "Construction of Ram temple is historic. I've made a one-inch statuette of Lord Ram using 1.2-gram gold to mark this occasion and will send it to Ram temple trust."
A cycle borne miscreant snatched gold chain from a 65-year-old woman Uma in Tamil Nadu's Madurai. The incident took place in broad daylight on August 02 in the East Veli Street area of Madurai. The robbery was caught in a CCTV camera. Uma has lodged a complaint at the Southgate Police Station in Madurai. Police are investigating the robbery case based on her complaint.

The death toll rose to 15 in landslide which took place at Rajamala, Idukki district of Kerala on August 07. At least 57 people are still missing. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to kin of the deceased. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is in action at the incident spot. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alert for heavy rainfall for various districts in Kerala.

Around 690 metric tonnes of ammonium nitrate have been placed at Sattva Hitech CFS in Chennai. The ammonium nitrate was seized by Chennai Customs department in 2015 is kept in 37 containers. While speaking to media persons, a police official said, "Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives has done preliminary inspection to assess safety. Customs are taking immediate measures for disposal." Security arrangements have been made 24 7 at container freight station in Chennai. Concerns were raised after massive blast in Beirut involving unsafely stored ammonium nitrate, which claimed over 100 lives.
