The new technology checks firefighters for high temperatures as they walk into camp, screening for possible symptoms of COVID-19.

Drivers should slow dow problems -- specifically for fire camps, where there are typically thousands of people in a relatively small space.

Newswatch 12's alicia rubin is live at the badger fire camp tonight where new technology is being used to help prevent the spread of covid-19.

This is a mass fever screening system or m-f-s-s -- firefighters coming into camp will all walk through this trailor that will scan their body temperature and alert calfire if anyone is running a fever.

Dusty says: its similar to what some of the airports are using to be able to walk through a trailer, touchless system and be able to read people's tempuratures.

Right now, los angeles international airport is using this same system.

This system was built in singapore and then shipped to northern california.

Fire dawg green incorporated here in siskiyou county then created this trailer to make it mobile.

Sensors are checking to make sure no one has a temperature above 100.4 degrees.

Dusty says: its an initial screening for any symptoms of covid-19.

If anyone has a temperature while walking through the trailer, they will then have their temperature taken again to confirm and will be taken through a covid-19 questionnaire.

Cal fire says they have a good relationship with local public health and will be working along side them throughout the screening and reporting process.

If someone at the fire camp needs to quarantine or if there is a positive case of covid-19 calfire says they will follow the recommendations and instructions from local public health.

If all goes according to plan, screening
