Assam floods: Over 100 dead, NDRF rescues villagers in flood-hit areas

Parts of Assam has been reeling under heavy floods.

A total 56,71,018 people have been affected in 30 districts of Assam due to floods since May 22, the state government said.

More than 100 people have died in flood-related incidents and 615 relief camps have been set up, according to the state government.

As many as 16 NDRF teams have been carrying out rescue work in flood-hit areas.

Rescue operation was carried out at Dighirpam Bazar in Barpeta district on July 27.

NDRF teams evacuated villagers, livestock and transported them to safer places.

A total of 132 animals at the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have died due to floods related incidents.

"132 animal deaths reported at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, Bokahat due to drowning and other reasons, so far.

This includes 14 rhinos, 5 wild buffaloes, 8 wild boars, 2 swamp deer, 98 hog deer, 1 sambar, 3 porcupines and 1 Python," said the Government of Assam.

Floods wreaked havoc in various districts of Assam for the fourth time this year.
