After Beirut explosion, authorities in Chennai finally swung into action. Almost 700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate reportedly transported to Hyderabad. The 690 tonnes of ammonium nitrate had been seized in 2015.Around 10 containers were transported and security personnel accompanied the trucks. The consignment worth Rs 1.8 crore was kept in a Chennai container freight station. It came into the spotlight after the tragedy in Lebanon's capital city. In Beirut, 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored at the port for years. Ammonium nitrate is an explosive chemical also used in fertilisers. It is believed to be the cause of the massive blast which shook Beirut on August 4. The death toll has crossed 150, over 6000 found injured so far, as per reports.

Containers loaded with over 180 tons of ammonium nitrate is being to Hyderabad to a (a private company after it was auctioned). As many as 10 container containing ammonium nitrate left from the freight station. Earlier this week, a pair of explosions due to ammonium nitrate in Lebanon's Beirut caused a widespread damage which left over 150 dead and more than 5,000 injured. 2,750-ton stockpile of ammonium nitrate was stored nearby in the city. Ammonium nitrate is a highly explosive chemical often used a fertilizer.
Former President Pranab Mukherjee tested coronavirus positive on August 10. Mukherjee had gone to the hospital for separate procedure, where he was diagnosed with coronavirus. He announced the news on his Twitter handle. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah is also undergoing treatment for coronavirus.
30 women police officers in Hyderabad recovered from Covid and joined work on Thursday. They were welcomed by Hyderabad commissioner of police Anjani Kumar. All the cops had been found to be infected with Covid-19 and had been on treatment. They had been serving in different police stations in the city when they were found to be Covid positive. Police personnel have been at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19. They have been responsible for enforcing the Covid induced lockdown across the country. The commissioner of Hyderabad police said that he is proud to welcome them back and also gifted them a bag and a certificate as a mark of respect. The brave cops will now resume their duties after having beaten Covid. Telangana has reported over 50,000 cases of Covid-19 so far and 480 deaths have been reported in the state due to Covid-19. With India now slowly opening up from lockdowns, the government has asked people to adhere to basic Covid preventive measures like wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
