Family of baby girl with rare condition causing tummy to swell appeal for help with treatment

The poverty-stricken family of a one-year-old girl with a rare condition that gives her a swollen tummy and spongy bone have appealed for help treating her.

Wirinthira Inthasuwan has suffered with Biliary Atresia since she was born in Songkhla, southern Thailand in 2019.

The disease has slowed her growth and caused her to suffer from a big belly and soft bones.

The mother Rosita Inthasuwan, 38, said she was recommended to take her daughter to the more equipped hospital for treatment but she had no money.

She said: "I have to take her to the hospital every month but some months if I could not earn enough for the medication, so I could not take her there.

"She has gone absent the treatment from time to time which hurts me as well but I have no other choice." The family were visited by the local government officials after they heard about the girl's plight through social media.

District sheriff Somsak Chanchu donated supplies and said the authority will try to find a way to help the girl.

He said: "We will coordinate with the hospital to assist with the treatment for the poor girl as soon as possible."
