COVID-19: Low footfall in Guwahati markets ahead of Bakri Eid

Amid COVID-19 pandemic, markets in Assam's Guwahati witnessed relatively low footfall ahead of Bakri Eid.

Shopkeepers said their businesses have been badly hit due to COVID.

"There are fewer customers in market these days.

Our business is badly hit as market condition is poor," a shopkeeper said.

Bakra Eid, Bakrid and Eid al-Adha are all names for the 'Feast of the Sacrifice'.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19cases in Assam has reached 38,408.

Unlock 3.0: Gyms start operations in Guwahati today amid COVID-19

Gymnasiums began operations in Assam's Guwahati on August 03. The state government of Assam issued new guidelines for unlock 3.0 on August 02. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued guidelines for Unlock 3.0 on July 29 for resumption of activities outside containment zones. Unlock 3.0 has came into effect from August 01. The gym owners are making sure that fitness equipments and machineries are getting properly sanitised. They are taking all necessary precautionary measures like maintaining social distancing, keeping a batch of 4-5 people at a time etc. All fitness centres are closed for nearly 4 months due to coronavirus pandemic. Now, this comes as a relief to several gym owners and fitness trainers who have been facing massive financial losses after having been shut since March.

Over 40 Assam cops donated blood plasma after beating Covid-19. Assam Police organized a blood donation camp in Guwahati on August 01. It was organized in collaboration with State Health Department & National Health Mission. As per reports, a total of 67 personnel of Assam Police volunteered to donate plasma for treatment of COVID-19 patients out of which 43 personnel were found eligible to donate plasma. They were felicitated by Minister of Health Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of State, Health department Pijush Hazarika, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Harmit Singh, ADGP(A), M P Gupta, Commissioner of Police Guwahati and other dignitaries. A year later, he floated the Rashtriya Lok Manch which didn't perform well in the subsequent elections. In 2014, he had joined Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal.
