Uttarakhand Congress MLA Harish Dhami had a narrow escape after he slipped and fell into a flooded rivulet in Dharchula area of Pithoragarh. MLA Harish Dhami, however, escaped with minor injuries after party workers and supporters accompanying him swiftly got him out of the rivulet. The incident happened when the MLA was returning after visiting a flood hit village. The water level suddenly and the MLA lost control and fell. Dhami was given first aid by some Army personnel who were deputed nearby. The water is filled with thick muck and debris due to the landslides in the area, which makes it very dangerous for locals as well. The hill state has witnessed heavy rainfall in the last couple of weeks leading to landslides and flooded rivulets. Several temporary bridges have also been destroyed leading due to the swelling rivulets. Disaster relief teams have been working on overdrive to help people affected by floods and landslides across the state. Locals from Sabha Ghurdi village of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand built a temporary bridge over a river on August 11. Due to heavy rains in the area, all the roads and bridges were washed away by the river. More bridges are being constructed in the area to connect villages.
Rescue operation has been done in several flood affected areas with the help of helicopter in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. Food items and tents were distributed in the flood affected villages of Dharchula town of Pithoragarh district. Around 100 people have been rescued so far with the help of helicopter. 162 people have been kept in a relief camp by the district administration amid flood like situation.
The portion of a bridge built across Gosi River, under Pithoragarh and Bangapani tehsils has been collapsed on July 28. It has been collapsed following overnight heavy rainfall. Movement of people have also been halted in the route.
Due to incessant rains in Dharchula of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand , the water level of the rivers increased and many roads were closed due to landslides. Locals are facing huge trouble in the area and said that administration is not doing anything. "At least 12-14 families have been affected due to landslides and have been shifted to safer places," the SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) of Dharchula, Anil Kumar Shukla said. Heavy rains in Chamoli district have increased the water level of rivers, landslides have halted vehicular movement on Badrinath National Highway. District Magistrate of Chamoli, Swati S Bhadauria said, "Many roads were closed due to heavy rains, and most of the places have been opened."
Landslides following heavy rainfall has blocked several motorways in Uttarakhand's Bageshwar district. Daily lives of people have been affected due to the aftermath of heavy rainfall. Houses were also flooded as water entered residential areas. Disaster Management Officer of Bageshwar district said, "Teams have been alerted. So far 2 motorways have been cleared. Machines being used to clear remaining roads and officials are assessing the damage caused."
COVID-19 patients protested on August 11 alleging lack of proper food facility and accommodation in Uttarakhand's Khatima. The patients are kept at a COVID care centre in Pantnagar of Udham Singh Nagar district. While speaking to media persons, an official said, "Issues regarding food and accommodation have been resolved. There are some cases here where children are also staying with the families as they didn't have facility to keep them away. Arrangement of home quarantine is being made for them." Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand has reached 10,432.
Motorway connecting Dharchula to China border is closed from past 20 days due to damage in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. It is causing trouble to Indian Army and locals. While speaking to ANI, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dharchula, Anil Kumar Shukla said, "I have issued orders to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for the opening of road." "They have ensured that this motorway will be opened within 2 days," he added.
