While Covid-19 cases and deaths continue to wreak havoc in the country, the new fear of mucormycosis or black fungus is causing more worries. Maharashtra has reported more deaths caused by the black fungus while the government has said there may be 2,000 cases of mucormycosis in the state. On Monday, Odisha also reported its first case of mucormycosis while Delhi, Gujarat and a few other states have already detected cases of the feared black fungus.

With the resurge of COVID-19 cases in the national capital, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on April 15 announced that monuments would remain shut till May 15. Famous Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar and other centrally protected monuments would remain closed. Malini, a visitor said, "I had came here to visit Red Fort but could not get inside only look at it from outside." Another visitor Sandesh said, "I had came to visit Delhi but we have to follow government's protocol too."

A woman in Patna misbehaved with police personnel who were on duty to implement COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. She claimed that she could not get conveyance to return back to her hometown. During the verbal spat, she did not spare Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
After Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on May 5 announced lockdown till May 15, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey today appealed people with folded hand to follow the lockdown guidelines strictly. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on May 09 hit out at Arvind Kejriwal government over mismanagement of COVID crisis. "Earlier on March 6, Central government warned Delhi government about the arrangements of procurement of oxygen but they didn't do anything. But when they got pressure from hospitals, they (Delhi govt) on April 18 started looking for vendors for cryogenic oxygen tanker," said Delhi's BJP president.
Hitting out at the Arvind Kejriwal government amid COVID crisis, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said when BJP and RSS are helping people during oxygen shortage, Delhi government and MLAs are involved in black-marketing. "At a time when people of Delhi are gasping for oxygen, BJP, RSS and other organisations are helping people, Delhi Governments ministers and MLAs are involved in black-marketing and hoarding of medicines and oxygen. Delhi Govt and AAP are responsible for this crisis," said Delhi's BJP president.
A Delhi-based dentist Dr Dimple Arora Chawla was seven months pregnant when she tested Covid positive in April. Soon after she went into labour, and the 34-year-old lost her unborn baby. The next day, she herself lost her life to the virus. She leaves behind her three-year-old son and her husband, Ravish Chawla. Ravish, after her demise, shared a video where she gave out her last message to the world.

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia on May 09 slammed Central government over COVID vaccines exported to other countries. He said, "Govt of India exported COVID vaccines to 93 countries in last 3 months. It gave 6.5 crore doses to them. Around 1 lakh people have died of COVID during the second wave in India. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday urged the Centre to maintain 700 MT of medical oxygen supply to Delhi, claiming that the quantity received by the city has dipped in the past two days. Delhi has a current need of 700 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen. On May 5, Delhi received for the first time 730 MT of oxygen, thanks to the Centre, he said.
