Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual summit with his UK counterpart Boris Johnson on May 04. Speaking on the talks between the two leaders, MEA Joint Secretary (Europe West), Sandeep Chakraborty today said, "India and UK agreed to substantially strengthen defence and security engagement, including in the maritime domain, counter-terrorism and cyberspace. UK has also recently come up with integrated review on security, defence and foreign policy which identifies India as a key partner."

"UK was one of the first to respond, sending critical medical equipment, like oxygen concentrators, cylinders, ventilators, amongst others. The successful vaccine partnership through Oxford/AstraZeneca-SII collaboration was also discussed," he added.
Speaking on today's virtual summit between Netherlands Prime Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MEA Joint Secretary (Europe West) on April 09 said, "The Netherlands is very grateful for the air-bubble agreement between our two countries, facilitating the repatriation of many Dutch and EU-citizens back to Europe, and Indian citizens back to India."

India and the European Union (EU) on Saturday announced their decision to resume negotiations for a balanced and comprehensive trade agreement after a gap of eight years and unveiled an ambitious connectivity partnership, during a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of 27 member nations of the bloc. In his remarks, Modi invited the EU to support a proposal by India and South Africa to waive patents on COVID-19 vaccines so that there can be equitable vaccine access for the entire world, officials said. The meeting, participated by leaders of EU member states as well as the top leadership of the EU, also decided to launch negotiations on two other key agreements on investment protection and geographical indications.
