Race between 19-year-old and KS state rep too close to call

The race between a 19-year-old college student and an experienced Kansas state representative is too close to call.

HEALTHCARE COVERAGE AREALITY.Aaron Coleman /KANSAS STATEREPRESENTATIVECANDIATE"I'm just happy that it was eventhisclose.

Even if i lose i'm justglad itwas this closeONE VOTE -- JUST ONEVOTE --THAT'S HOW MUCH A 19-YEAR-OLD LEADS THEINCUMBENT IN THE RACEFOR KANSAS STATEREPRESENTATIVE INWYANDOTTE COUNTY.THE RACE HAS YET TO BECALLED AS MAIL-INBALLOTS ARE STILL BEINGCOUNTED.41 ACTION NEWSREPORTER SARAH PLAKETALKS WITH BOTHCANDIDATES IN THIS TIGHTRACE.A 19 year old politicalnewcomer, Aaron Coleman, says he can unseat theexperienced Kansas staterepresentative StanFrownfelter. But the race is too close tocall.

Coleman is up by just onevote - 768 to Frownfelter's76Regardless if this flips oncethe mail in ballots come in,this election has shown thestrength and the power of theprogressive movement. The Wyandotte Countyelection board is still countingmail-in and provisional ballotsthrough Friday and a board ofcanvassers will finalize theresults on August 17th.Frownfelter said attributes thresults to low voter turnout. We had 25 - 30 percent inwyandotte county, the largestever for a primary.

But yet mydistrict was less than 10percent, it was only 1500people voted.

Had it been uparound 3000 i think it couldhave been better.Coleman is pushing for freemedical care and college, recreational cannabis, andsays he wants to take moneyout of politics.I think if we really wantrepresentation by the people, for the people we need to getmoney out of politics, and thatstarts by getting rid of boughtand sold politicians. But Frownfelter says hisexperience will carry himthrough.

He called outColeman for inflammatorysocial media comments, where Coleman expressed itwould be funny if Republicanlawmakers who didn't wearmasks died of covid.Coleman has since apologized-I think if i wasn't running foroffice, saying some of thethings i said at 19 wouldn't beso controversial but i took onthe decision to run for officeso now i need to act it, i needto be mature.I think he's going to find itdifficult with that attitudebecause i learned somethingin my 14 years up there, thatoak trees dont last long.

Youneed to be a willow, you needto be able to comprise. If the final results are stillthclose, Frownfelter says he willcall for a recount.Sarah plake 41 action ne
