Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa met Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi. Yediyurappa met Naidu on Sep 19 before returning to Bengaluru. While talking to media persons, BS Yediyurappa said that he is expecting cabinet expansion before Karnataka Assembly session.
As coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country, the recovery graph of states in parallel shows a steady picture. Maharashtra reported 21,656 new coronavirus cases taking total cases to 11,67,496. The state has so far reported 8,34,432 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh recorded 6,584 new infections and 6,806 recovered cases on September 18. Karnataka reported 8,626 new COVID-19 cases taking total number of cases to 5,02,982. The Member of Parliaments (MPs) paid tribute to Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Gasti on September 18. He passed away on September 17 due to coronavirus. Addressing in Rajya Sabha, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, "I refer with profound sorrow to the passing away of Ashok Gasti, who was a sitting member of this House from Karnataka. The country has lost an able parliamentarian."
Harivansh Singh had been chosen as the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha on September 14. BJP Rajya Sabha MP JP Nadda moved the motion to elect NDA candidate Harivansh as the Deputy Chairman of the House. MP Thaawarchand Gehlot seconded the motion. A voice vote was conducted for the election of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman. House's Chairman Venkaiah Naidu declared him as the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha. "The respect I hold for Harivansh ji, each member of the House shares. He has earned this respect.
