Netherlands to UK passenger ferry becomes "ghost ship" due to new quarantine rules

A British passenger on board a ferry from the Netherlands to the UK recently found himself virtually alone amid ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

"The Stena Britannica "super ferry" has a capacity of 1,200 and would normally be full during summer," explained the filmer Tony Fisher.

"However due to the quarantine rules, it was virtually empty on August 24th," he added.

The video he filmed shows deck after deck completely empty.

"With barely any passengers staff did not bother opening bars, restaurants, the shop or even the information desk," said Fisher.

"We can only hope the captain was at his post," he joked.

The current advice on the UK government website reads: "If you are returning to the UK from the Netherlands on or after 15 August, you may need to self-isolate on your return."
