Incredible pilot view of successful flying car test flight in Japan

Incredible footage shows a Japanese flying drone car's first public test flight.

The SD-03 model built by the company SkyDrive was flown in the Toyota Test Field in Toyota, Japan on August 25.

The single-seat aircraft hovered more than six feet above the ground and circled the test area for four minutes.

CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa said there are ''more than 100'' flying car projects in the world but onlyt a ''handful'' have succeeded in carrying a person.

He hopes to have the aircraft on the market by 2023.

The team said the SD-03 is currently the world’s smallest flying car made for one person.

It measures around 13ft in length and width and around 6.5ft in height.

It has two white lights at its front, and a red light underneath to help people know where it is going.

During the test flight, a pilot flew while technicians monitored the vehicle in case it needed an emergency backup.

The company spent two years tweaking the flying car before the successful public-manned test flight.

Interested investors have put forward more than 37 million USD, with hopes that it could revolutionize travel.

SkyDrive said their next goal is to have the flying car approved for use outside the custom-built air field.

They hope to turn the prototype into a commercial model by 2023.
