A man and his pregnant wife from Jharkhand, eastern India, who drove 1,200 kilometres to complete an exam were gifted plane tickets home.

Dhananjay Kumar, 27 drove his wife Soni Hembram, 22, to Madhya Pradesh so she could complete an exam for aspiring teachers, according to reports.

After hearing of the couple's plight, Adani Foundation offered the pair plane tickets home The company's chairperson Priti Adani tweeted: "Dhananjay and Soni's marathon travel was a journey of survival, resilience & great optimism.

We @AdaniFoundationare humbled to arrange for their comfortable return journey to Godda & thankful to the local media for bringing this inspiring story to light." Kumar said in response to the gift: "We never boarded a plane in our lives.

We thank them for the support." This footage was filmed on September 7.
