I'm veronica jean seltzer.

Good evening and thanks for joining us, i'm amber freeman and i'm veronica jean seltzer.

Hurricane sally has come and gone...killing at least one person and leaving behind destruction and flooding.

Thousands are without power...and gulf coast communities are reeling as they brace for the remainder of hurricane season.

Kentuckians are there to help rebuild.

Abc 36's monica harkins talked with two kentucky groups helping on the ground.

That's tonight's top story at five.

C1 3 ### "honking" matt daley: "so just because the storm has come and gone, that doesn't mean the danger has come and gone" a calm...but delicate danger...like still flood waters near downed power lines...a danger matt daley with emergency disaster services, e-d-s, out of lexington..is living right now in louisiana.

"matt daley: so we're not heroes by any mean.

But we're taking care of the heroes who are actually out here doing the hard work.

Eds sets up hubs for first responders and utilities crews to work in devasted areas like louisiana following hurricane laura and alabama after hurricane sally..

Daley says he's been out helping in louisiana for 3 weeks already.

Matt:it's sad that you do get used to seeing streets that are bombed out.

In fact, when you pull up to the intersection and the streetlights are working, you almost have to take a second to think, oh my gosh, there's a green light and i can go instead of the stop and start a traffic."

Nat pop kentucky electric cooperatives left for alabama thursday.

Joe arnold:"they have 4000, miles of power line down, they have more than 4000 trees in the power lines are co op crews are literally going to be rebuilding their system."

Joe arnold says teams on the ground there will be a part of a larger nearly thousand person utility crew to help.

And it's a rebuild like never before.

"matt: it's hard enough to work in a devastated storm event.

It's even harder when there's a global pandemic that you're wrapped in" with a seemingly fluid...end date..

"matt: so none of us are really going home anytime soon."

As more brews in the distance.
