Rafale squad: Meet 1st woman IAF pilot to fly new jet; how family reacted

Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh is set to become India Air Force's first woman pilot to fly fighter jet Rafale.

Flight Lt Singh's family celebrated her achievement at their residence in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

Flight Lt Singh is currently undergoing the conversion training.

She will soon join the 17 Golden Arrows Squadron at Ambala airbase.

"My daughter has worked hard and we have always supported her.

It's a matter of pride for us, we are happy that she's going to fly this aircraft," father of Flight Lt Singh said.

Flight Lt Shivangi Singh was previously flying MiG-21 fighter aircraft.

Indian Air Force has 10 women fighter pilots and 18 women navigators.

The total strength of women officers serving in IAF is 1,875.

Air Force Day 2020: Rafale & other jets showcase prowess in air display

The Indian Air Force celebrated its 88th anniversary with a grand parade and scintillating air display at the Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad. The event was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Army Chief MM Naravane and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh. IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria inspected the parade which was followed a majestic air display. The highlight of the air show this time around was the newly inducted Rafale jets which took part in the air display. The Rafale flew in the 'Vijay' formation, flanked by two Jaguars and Mirage 2000 each. It also carried out a minimum radius turn within an area smaller than a hockey field forming a figure of eight. The Air Force Day is celebrated to mark the day the IAF was established in 1932. Wishes poured in for the IAF from across the political spectrum with President Kovind and PM Modi leading the way. India successfully test fired a land attack version of BrahMos supersonic missile. The supersonic cruise missile was test-fired on November 24 at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It hit its target, which was on a different island with ‘pinpoint accuracy’. The strike range of BrahMos missile has now been enhanced to over 400 km. BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the lethal weapon that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms. According to official sources, in the next few days, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy are scheduled to carry out separate test-firing of the new version of the air-launched and naval versions of the supersonic cruise missile respectively. India conducts joint service exercise in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) conducted a three-day joint services exercise code-named 'Bull Strike' at the remotely located Teressa Island, military officials said on Thursday. The drill began on Tuesday and ended on Thursday and saw participation from three service components of the ANC, elements of Indian Army's Parachute Brigade, MARCOS (Marine Commando Force), and Special Forces, officials said. The exercise focussed on enhancing interoperability and synergy among the three services - Army, Navy, and Air Force - to maximize combat potential, officials said. The exercise was conducted at Teressa island, which is located in the strategically important Nicobar group of islands.
