Union minister Smriti Irani took on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi over the issue of 'love jihad', a conspiracy to convert Hindu women as alleged by some Hindutva groups. A day earlier, the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh promulgated an ordinance to nullify marriages solemnised with the primary purpose of converting the bride. It also has provisions to punish 'unlawful' religious conversion. Other BJP-ruled states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka are also mulling similar laws. Owaisi had called the law violative of the Constitution and a diversionary tactic by BJP. Irani said all Indians should hail legislation aimed at protecting women and their rights. Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on the former principal secretary of Kerala CMO M Sivasankar's connection with Wadakkanchery Life Mission scam case said that the relationship between the CM, Principal Secretary and the crime has been proved. V Muraleedharan said, "The findings of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau reaffirm the fact that M Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary of Kerala CMO, is supposed to be a culprit. So the relationship between Chief Minister, Principal Secretary, and the crime has been proved." Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau named M Sivasankar, former Principal Secretary of Kerala CMO, as the 5th accused in the Wadakkanchery Life Mission scam case. Bureau has submitted a report in the Special Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram on November 02.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged protest outside Siddhivinayak Temple against the state government on October 13. They demanded that all temples in Maharashtra should be re-opened for devotees. Protesters tried to enter the temple amidst heavy police deployment and barricading. BJP workers were later detained by police after they made an attempt to enter Siddhivinayak Temple. Speaking to ANI, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Pravin Darekar said, "Liquor and wine shops have been opened, even with home delivery options. But who will think about those who want to visit the temple for their mental peace?" "Government is not thinking about small traders whose livelihood depends on temples. Government is full of ego," BJP leader added. Adding to it, BJP leader, Prasad Lad said, "We are demanding that we should be allowed to enter the Siddhivinayak Temple. If they don't give us entry, then we will force our way into the temple. This is a pan-Maharashtra movement as we want that all temples in the state should be re-opened as soon as possible."
National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted in the special court, Kochi that agency suspects that the accused have links to Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company. NIA submitted this in its response to the bail petitions of the seven accused in the case. Speaking to ANI about the Kerala gold smuggling case, Leader of Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly and former president of Kerala PCC, Ramesh Chennithala said, "It is very shocking that the main culprit in gold smuggling case has connections with Dawood Ibrahim. It is one of the biggest crimes that happened in Kerala." "Unfortunately, state government was supporting the culprits. NIA will unearth details of this crime," he added.
