On Friday, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh announced the formation of the new Malerkotla district in Punjab. Malerkotla, with a majority of Muslim population, is carved out from the city of Sangrur. It is the 23rd district in the state and located about 131 km from Chandigarh.

A 10-member BJP delegation, led by state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh, met the four-member team from Home Ministry at the BSF office in Kolkata. MHA deputed the team to assess the ground situation amid the post-poll violence in West Bengal. Additional Secretary in Home Ministry Govind Mohan, Additional Secretary in Education Ministry Vinit Joshi, Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau Janardan Singh and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) IB, Nalin are among the team. Violence has been reported in several parts of West Bengal after post-poll results.
CRPF recovered a 7-kg improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh. The explosive device was found by troops of CoBRA 206 Battalion. CRPF jawans destroyed the IED planted by Naxals in a controlled explosion. The IED was destroyed in the forest area of Minpa in Sukma district.

CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas reached his hometown, Jammu on Friday. Rakeshwar was released last week after being abducted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. The jawan was warmly welcomed by family, friends who put garlands around his neck. “I am very happy that I am meeting my family today. Our soldiers were brave enough to fight back the Naxals,” Rakeshwar said. Rakeshwar was abducted by Naxals during the Sukma-Bijapur encounter on April 3. Rakeshwar, who was part of security force's elite CoBRA unit, was released on April 8. 22 security personnel were killed and 31 others were injured in the fierce gunbattle.

While addressing a public meeting in Andhra Pradesh's Naidupeta on April 12, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda slammed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, alleging the government is deep into corruption, misgovernance and nepotism in the state. As many as 3 persons killed after an oxygen cylinder burst at an oxygen gas filling station located on Dewa road in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on May 05. Speaking to ANI, Police Commissioner DK Thakur said that while refilling of cylinders one of the cylinders exploded. "While refilling of cylinders, one of the cylinders exploded. 3 people have died so far. One injured is being treated at RML Hospital while 4 others have been shifted to Trauma Centre," said Thakur.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on April 28 said the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, has approved around Rs 6,500 crore to provide free vaccination for people between 18-44 years in the state. Tope explained that the state has nearly 5.71 crore people in the above mentioned age group and thus the state would require 12 crore doses for their vaccination. The third phase of vaccination, covering people aged 18-44 years, will start from May 01 even as several states have expressed concerns over availability of vaccines.
Clearing the air regarding the phase-3 vaccination in Maharashtra, Aslam Shaikh, the Guardian Minister of Mumbai, said the decision to vaccinate the people of 18-44 age group free of cost could be taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray during the cabinet meeting today.
Army Chief General MM Naravane, speaking on the India-China disengagement at Ladakh, on Tuesday said that India has not lost out on any territory and the situation was where it was before the border dispute started. "We have not lost out on any territory, we are where we were before this whole thing started...Not an inch of land has been lost," he told ANI when asked about the disengagement process between the two countries.

After a long gap of almost a year, the schools in UT of Ladakh reopened for Class 6 onwards on March 30. They were shut due to COVID-19 pandemic. COVID norms have to be followed at schools which are reopening to combat spread of the virus. A school staff said, "We're following all the SOPs. We have reduced students' strength to 50% in each class. Students will have to come to school on alternative days."
