Political campaigning and rallies have been ended ahead of the Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) election scheduled to take place on October 22 in which people of the region are going to vote through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) for the first time.
The local administration has sought help from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to transport polling parties and their material to places where road connectivity is poor.
This time around, the administration has also made a special arrangement for the senior citizen and physically challenged voters.
The whole world knows Ladakh has become union territory and people of Ladakh have accepted it, said Ladakh BJP president Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on November 14 after Twitter showed Leh as a part of Jammu and Kashmir instead of Ladakh. "I welcome the steps taken by the central government, because after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J-K, Twitter should know about the areas and where it is located. Anyone writes anything the decision cannot be changed because whole world knows that Ladakh has become a union territory," Earlier, the government of India has issued notice to Twitter for showing Leh as a part of Jammu and Kashmir instead of Ladakh.

A modern terminal building and an apron will be added to the current airport infrastructure at a cost of Rs 480 crores. To be equipped with world-class facilities, the new terminal of Leh airport is expected to be ready by the end of 2022. Leh airport has been handling flight operations efficiently amid the fight against Covid-19. The airport ensures that no infected passenger hops on the flight or goes unchecked in the city. Thermal screening is being conducted for all passengers. Those who do not produce RT-PCR negative Test done within 48 hrs of boarding have to go through a rapid antigen test at the airport. Airport authorities are ensuring proper sanitization of public areas and luggage. They also follow strict compliance to social distancing norms at the airport. Passengers are appreciative of the efforts being made by the airport authorities to keep Coronavirus at bay.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated its victory in LAHDC-Leh polls on Oct 26. The party won the majority of the seats and has got 15 out of 26 seats while Congress got 9 seats. BJP leader, Tsering Sandup who won from Panamik constituency said, "I would like to thanks voters and everyone others. This is the second time I won from Panamik constituency and I am thankful to all of them. I am very happy that people have chosen us because of our work."
People throng to polling booth in Leh for the sixth Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Leh polls. BJP Ladakh president and Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal cast his vote. Administration on Oct 22 announced public holiday within the limits of Leh due to council polls. All SOPs are in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar held deliberations over the farmers' protest against the three central farm laws with BJP president J P Nadda here late on Sunday evening. Shah has already appealed to the protesting farmers to shift to the Burari ground in the national capital to stage their protests and said the Centre was ready to hold discussions with them as soon as they move to the designated place. Meanwhile, farmers had earlier rejected Centre's proposal to move the protest to Burari ground. Farmers said the Burari ground is an "open jail". Watch the full video for more details.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said elections are no solution to the Kashmir problem and called for a dialogue between India and Pakistan to address the issue. She also accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of “murdering the democracy” in the name of District Development Council (DDC) polls as alliance candidates were being confined to homes while others enjoyed full freedom to campaign. The PDP chief said the alliance candidates were not allowed to freely campaign for the DDC polls. "Our people do not have security. They have been confined to their homes and not allowed to run poll campaign while BJP candidates are freely roaming around. This is not done? Will this country run on the BJP's agenda?"They tell us not to talk about Article 370. BJP ministers visit Kashmir and nine out of 10 times, they talk about the revocation of Article 370. I fail to understand that when they are confident that Artilce 370 is gone and will not be restored, why do they get rattled so much when I speak about it," she said. India successfully test fired a land attack version of BrahMos supersonic missile. The supersonic cruise missile was test-fired on November 24 at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It hit its target, which was on a different island with ‘pinpoint accuracy’. The strike range of BrahMos missile has now been enhanced to over 400 km. BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the lethal weapon that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms. According to official sources, in the next few days, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy are scheduled to carry out separate test-firing of the new version of the air-launched and naval versions of the supersonic cruise missile respectively. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan met farmers at Burari's Nirankari Samagam Ground, the approved site for protest against recently enacted farm laws. He said, "MLAs and workers come here to ensure that they don't face any problem of food or stay, we'll take care of it as long as they stay here."
With several potential COVID vaccines expected to see the light of day in coming months, Delhi Health Minister Satydenar Jain on November 28 said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will vaccinate the entire population of the national capital within 3-4 weeks after the availability of a shot. "Whenever the vaccine is available in Delhi, within 3-4 weeks it will be administered all over the national capital with the help of our health facilities such as polyclinics," the Delhi Health Minister told ANI.
While addressing a press conference at Delhi-Haryana Border, Surjeet S Phul, President, BKU Krantikari (Punjab) on November 29 said, "We've decided that we won't allow any political party leader to speak on our stage, be it Congress, BJP, AAP or other parties. Our committee will allow other organisations, who are supporting us, to speak if they follow our rules." "We want to apologise to media for misbehaviour with them by a few protesters unknowingly. To avoid such situations in future, we've decided that after every meeting, an official press note will be released by us for media," he added.
