PM Modi's address on this occasion was telecasted in 294 constituencies following social distancing norms. PM Narendra Modi spoke in Bengali to wish the people of West Bengal on commencement of Durga Puja celebrations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Chief Ministers via video-conferencing on Nov 24. PM Modi said "Seeing good recovery rates, many think virus is weak and they'll recover soon, this has lead to rampant carelessness. Those working on vaccine are doing it but we need to focus on ensuring that people are alert and transmission is curbed. We have to bring positivity rate under 5%." He further said, "Vaccine distribution strategy will be chalked out in collective coordination with states. States must also start working on cold storage facilities."
Every festival in India represents the sense of brotherhood and syncretism beholden among the diversified population of the country. It is quite common to see people of different religious communities coming together and celebrating different festivals as a gesture of mutual respect and cooperation for each other. Thousands of devotees assembled at Assi Ghat on Friday in Varanasi to celebrate Chhath Puja. People were seen wearing traditional attires and offered prayers at the ghats. This year, the festival is being celebrated amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and many devotees said that they prayed to Chhathi Maiyya to keep everyone safe from the virus. Mumbai witnessed a muted Chatth Puja after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced restrictions on celebrations near natural water bodies in the city, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Chhath puja was observed in Kolkata without much fanfare, as processions synonymous with the festival were largely missing from the city roads, and people performed rituals at the temporary ghats set up by the civic authorities while maintaining a physical distance. Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee were seen celebrating the festival.

Devotees took holy dip on the auspicious day. Restrictions have been imposed this year in several cities due to extant COVID situation.
Six people were rescued and two others went missing after a vessel carrying eight trucks capsized in Ganga river in Malda district of West Bengal on night of November 23. According to Malda's Zilla Parishad, Sabhadhipati Gaur Chandra Mondal, the launch boat was coming from Rajmahal ghat of Jharkhand, but got drowned during unloading of trucks at Manikchak ghat in Malda. Search and rescue operation is underway to trace the two missing individuals. Meanwhile, the Malda administration has initiated an enquiry to find the cause of the incident.

Actor Soumitra Chatterjee has tested positive for Covid-19. The legendary actor has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. Chatterjee, 85, played prominent roles in some of the finest Bengali films. Chatterjee, who was unwell, tested Covid positive on Tuesday morning. Chatterjee is arguably best known for his roles in Satyajit Ray's films. Soumitra Chatterjee was last seen in the film, Sanjhbati in 2019. Chatterjee is a Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee.
