Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, participated in the inaugural session of the 18th edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. He discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and the development of vaccines with R. Sukumar, editor-in-chief, Hindustan Times. Dr Guleria said that because of Covid fatigue, we’re seeing a lot of people not following general precautions. He said it would be very sad for someone to lose an individual now, when the vaccine is just around the corner. Watch the full video for more.

The opening session of the 18th edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit saw an enlightening discussion on the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr Ashish K. Jha, Dean, Brown University School of Public Health, and Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences spoke on the race for a vaccine, which witnessed breakthroughs recently. AIIMS Director (Delhi) Dr Randeep Guleria reacted on the availability of the Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines in India and availability of their doses in the country. He said that the data released by the company is very encouraging but it should be looked very carefully. "Whatever vaccines they are making have potential of giving immunogenicity and protection as far as COVID-19 is concern," he said. "The challenge with the vaccines is that, how long the immunity lasts and how much protective value that it gives as far as individuals are concerns," Dr Guleria added. "He said that other challenge with the Pfizer vaccine is that the vaccine should be kept at a very low temperature which is not practical for rural parts of the country and tough to maintain the cold chain," he further said.
BJP MLA from Rajasthan's Rajsamand, Kiran Maheshwari passed away on November 29. Maheshwari had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) last month. The Rajasthan BJP MLA breathed her last at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital. Maheshwari was a member of 14th LS from 2004-2009 from Rajasthan's Udaipur constituency. The BJP MLA was shifted to Medanta earlier this month after her health worsened. She had reportedly contracted Covid during October's municipal corporation polls. Maheshwari was one of the two poll in-charges of BJP for Kota North Municipal Corporation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences on Maheshwari's demise. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot also expressed grief over 'the untimely demise'. Condoling her demise, LS Speaker Om Birla called it a 'personal loss'.

Former party present Rahul Gandhi, former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath along with other leaders was present at Burial Ground. Patel breathed his last after multi-organ failure in the wee hours of Nov 25. He was undergoing treatment at a Gurugram hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 71-year-old.
