North Bend School District shuts down after positive COVID-19 cases this week

Superintendent Kevin Bogatin said the staff member works at the main district office and had been at the majority of their campuses throughout the week.

All week-- we've been reporting on schools closing their doors for deep cleaning because of someone testing positive for covid-19.

And new tonight at 11-- that list keeps growing.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy joins us live in the studio and tells us-- what caused north bend school district to shut down all of its facilities tomorrow.

Chynna-- nearly everyday this week-- the north bend school district reported a new positive case.

Two of them were staff members at north bend high school and the one reported today was a staff member in the district office-- making a total of three cases.

The superintendent tells me out of precaution all district buildings will be closed tomorrow for a deep clean.

The district says all instruction and athletic events will be canceled too.

Superintendent kevin bogatin says this out of abundance of caution because the staff member that tested positive today-- was working at most campus facilities this week.

Bogatin also says there is a low risk students could have caught the virus because all the positive cases had little contact with them.

I really want to make sure our staff our community knows we're taking this serious.

I felt like we need to take some extra precautions and make sure that our entire building is sanitized and it also gives everyone a little bit of a breather as we go into the weekend bogatin says he has been in constant contact with the coos county health department throughout the week.

I did reach out to the health department for comment this evening-- but i did not hear back.

Chynna-- bogatin says as of now-- classes will resume as normal on monday.

There was also another announcement of a school closure this evening.

Sweet home junior high says their campus will be closed tomorrow after one of their staff members tested positive for covid-19.
