Narendra Modi said that for the first time it is happening that several trains are flagged off for reaching one particular city. PM Modi further informed that one of the trains flagged off on January 17 will originate at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. He further said that it is a pleasant coincidence that January 17 is also observed as birth anniversary of MGR. During the flagging off ceremony of 8 trains connecting Gujarat's Statue of Unity in Kevadiya with different regions of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this connectivity will help in changing the lives of the tribal community of Kevadiya. PM Modi further said that the rail connectivity will bring new opportunities for job and self-employment. PM Modi said, "This connectivity will be beneficial for tourists coming to see the Statue of Unity but it will also help in changing the lives of the tribal community of Kevadiya. Kevadiya is no longer a small block instead it is emerging as one of the tourist destination."
A tunnel was detected by Border Security Force (BSF) in Pansar area along International Border in Kathua, Jammu Kashmir. The security forces detected the tunnel under anti-tunneling campaign. According to Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu NS Jamwal, "We had received inputs from intelligence agencies for a while that there was the possible existence of a tunnel in the Pansar area.
