Amid the campaigning for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday pitched for renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar. "Some people were asking me if Hyderabad can be renamed as Bhagyanagar. I said, 'Why not?' I told them that we renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya and Allahabad as Prayagraj after BJP came into power in Uttar Pradesh. Then why can't Hyderabad be renamed as Bhagyanagar?" BJP MLA Sangeet Som said that people who don't trust the scientists can leave the country. Som defended the provocative remarks he allegedly made against vaccine critics. "People who don't trust our scientists, govt, Army and police should leave the country. If they trust Pakistan, they should go there," he said. "Scientists of our country make medicines, they don't hurt anyone's sentiments. So people who have double-standards and trust Pakistan can go there," the BJP MLA added. On Tuesday, Som had reportedly said 'some Muslims' did not trust the country's scientists. Som had made the provocative remarks apparently over opposition to covid-19 vaccine.

In an alleged provocative remarks made over Covid-19 vaccine, BJP MLA Sangeet Som had earlier said "some Muslims" did not trust the country's scientists. When asked about the same, Sangeet Som replied that people who don't trust their own scientists should leave the country. He further said that if they trust Pakistan, they should go there. Sangeet Som said, "I had said that if people don't trust their own scientists, Government, PM, Army and Police, it means that they don't trust their own country. So, they should go back to wherever they want to. If they trust Pakistan, they should go there. What is wrong in what I said?"
On Jan 15, President Ram Nath Kovind made the first contribution towards the construction of Ram Mandir, which is to be built in UP's Ayodhya. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) working president, Alok Kumar said, "He is the first citizen of the country so we went to him to initiate this drive. He donated a sum of Rs 5,01,000." Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also made the contribution for construction of Ram Mandir. He handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to a leader of Vishva Hindu Parishad. He said, "I am grateful to be part of such mission." Ram Mandir is to be built at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi in UP's Ayodhya.
