President Ram Nath Kovind performed a 'Narmada Aarti' dedicated to Maa Narmada on March 06. Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also performed the aarti. Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel were also in attendance. Leaders performed all the rituals were performed to pay respect to the sacred river. Scores of devotees also participated in the 'Narmada Aarti'.

Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar hits out at faculty members opposing the involvement of the National Testing Agency in the entrance examination. Kumar said that the exam has become more transparent after NTA took over the admissions. Kumar said that a few faculty members seem to think that UGC rules should not be followed. Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) alleged that the delay in appointment of the new V-C was “deliberate” to give an indefinite extension to Kumar. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) vice chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar on March 03 alleged that few faculty members spreading distorted facts in media about the institution and also opposing move of conducting exams with National Testing Agency (NTA). "A few JNU faculty members have been spreading distorted facts in media and speaking against our admission process. It is important to clarify and put the facts in public domain. After National Testing Agency (NTA) took responsibility for entrance exams, the process has become transparent and accessible for students. Some people don't want JNU to progress as they don't want any association with National Testing Agency (NTA). As part of National Education Policy, most entrance exams will be conducted by NTA. I fail to understand their logic in opposing the move," said JNU VC.

While addressing a press conference in the national capital on February 09, the Union Cabinet Minister for Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank spoke on Uttarakhand glacier disaster. Pokhriyal said, "Teams of Indian Army, NDRF, ITBP and SDRF are working day-night amid challenging situations to rescue people. Saving lives is the biggest challenge right now. Search is underway for missing people." "206 people were missing, of which 31 bodies have been found," he added.
Rescue operation underway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli after glacier burst led to flash flood. ITBP jawans, NDRF teams, SDRF, and local Police have been deployed at several areas in flood affected areas. Over 200 people are feared missing following the glacier burst. ITBP and other teams rescued people from one tunnel and currently working on another one. NDRF DG SN Pradhan said the focus is on the bigger tunnel where rescue operation is underway. Earlier, Swati S Bhadauria, District Magistrate of Chamoli informed that 13 villages near the Reini Bridge have been affected. She also said there were no casualty reported but several people are stranded there. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal was also present at Chamoli to review the situation.
