Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij was administered a trial dose of Covaxin on Friday.
67-year old Vij was administered the trial dose at the Civil Hospital at Ambala Cantt.
On Wednesday, Vij had said the third phase of trial will begin in Haryana on Nov 20.
Vij, an MLA from Ambala Cantt, had offered to be the first volunteer to get vaccinated.
Covaxin, a potential vaccine against Covid, entered third phase of clinical trial.
Covaxin is being developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR. Last month, the vaccine maker said it had completed interim analysis of Phase 1, 2 trials.
The phase 3 trials will involve 26,000 volunteers across 25 centres in India.
It is the largest clinical trial conducted for a Covid-19 vaccine in India.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who tested positive for Covid-19, has been shifted to Rohtak's PGIMS hospital. Vij was earlier admitted to the civil hospital in Ambala. He was reportedly shifted on Saturday night after he had complained of discomfort. Hospital authority said Vij's condition is stable, he has been given a Remdesivir course. However, doctors will decide on whether the minister needs to be given plasma therapy. The Haryana Health Minister had tested positive for Covid-19 on December 5. Last month, Vij had got one shot of the two-dose trial of Covid vaccine, Covaxin. The 67-year-old BJP leader had offered to be the first volunteer in Covaxin's phase 3 trials. Covaxin is an indigenous potential vaccine being developed by Bharat Biotech against Covid. Vij was administered the dose on November 20 at the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment. Bharat Biotech had said Covaxin's trials are based on a two-dose schedule, given 28 days apart. It had said the vaccine efficacy would be determined two weeks after the second dose.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said that India shouldn't be made an experiment lab. Singh said that people of India should not be made guinea pigs for vaccine trials. As per the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), India on January 19 reported single-day spike of 10,064 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. 137 deaths in the same period pushed the COVID-19 toll in the country to 1,52,556. More than 1,02,28,753 people have recovered from the virus with 17,411 new discharges in last 24 hours.
