Former Attorney General & Constitutional law expert Soli Sorabjee died on Friday. The 91-year-old veteran lawyer passed away after getting infected with Covid-19. Sorabjee had served as the Attorney General for India from 1989-90 & then from 1998-2004. The Former Attorney General was admitted to a private hospital in South Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled Sorabjee's demise. VP Venkaiah Naidu, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, RS Prasad and Smriti Irani also paid their tribute to the former Attorney General. NCP chief Sharad Pawar and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also tweeted and expressed their condolences. Born in 1930, Soli Sorabjee had been honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2002.

Petrol and diesel prices in the national capital stood at Rs 91.53 and Rs 82.06 per litre, respectively on May 10. The petrol prices were increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 33 paise in Delhi. Petrol prices witnessed a minor surge across country and differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax. In Mumbai, the price of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 97.86 and Rs 89.17 per litre respectively. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai was Rs 93.38 and Rs 86.96 per litre respectively and Rs 91.66 and Rs 84.90 per litre in Kolkata.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh Rawat conducted an aerial survey of Sumna area of Joshimath Sector in Chamoli district on April 24, where an avalanche occurred yesterday due to heavy snowfall. "HM Amit Shah called us up last night. NDRF and District Administration are on the job. ITBP and BRO were informed. Rescue was done quickly. I did an aerial survey today. BRO is carrying out the operation but the connectivity remains affected," said CM Rawat while speaking to media persons. According to Central Command of Indian Army, "291 persons have been rescued so far after a BRO Camp came under avalanche yesterday during heavy snowfall in Sumna area of Joshimath Sector in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand."
