Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated 25 pink buses for women and senior citizens in Guwahati. The objective is to provide safe and free service to the citizens. 'Pink' colour will help the beneficiaries to easily identify the free travel service.
63 militants belonging to several banned outfits have laid down arms before Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on December 21 in Guwahati. The arms laying ceremony was held in Guwahati. The militants joined the mainstream by handing over their arms and ammunitions.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker, Sharingain Longkumer graced the event. Meanwhile in Tripura, Governor Ramesh Bais unfurled the national flag at the Assam Rifles parade ground. Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb, CS Manoj Kumar, MP Pratim Bhowmik, and other dignitaries were also present. In Mizoram Governor, PS Sreedharan Pillai unfurled the national flag at Aizawl Lammual.
As Assam is all set to celebrate the 72nd Republic Day, security has been beefed up and random checking of vehicles and frisking of passengers is being done at several places in capital Guwahati. According to reports, the United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) and the NSCN (K) has issued their customary call for 'general strike' on January 26, appealing to the people of the region to boycott the Republic Day celebrations. Streets in Assam have been adorned with Indian flag badges and tricolor bands.
At least 3 persons were injured in Guwahati's New Bongaigaon due to an explosion of a tank at a railway factory. They were shifted to the hospital immediately. "Cleaning of tanks was done by our staff members and now it is being outsourced. It's not cleaned properly. We had filed complaint regarding safety concerns," said a factory staff member.

India once again established its position as a reliable partner in Covid-19 assistance. It dispatched Covishield to Bahrain and Sri Lanka under the Vaccine Maitri Initiative. Sri Lanka to receive a consignment of 50,400 doses, while Bahrain to get 10,800 doses. Covishield developed by Serum Institute of India was loaded to cargo aircraft at Mumbai. The cargo aircraft left Mumbai airport as per schedule at 7:55 am for Manama. The vaccine consignment for Colombo, which delayed for 15 minutes, left at 9:00 am. Meanwhile, India has supplied vaccines to its neighbours under neighbourhood first policy. Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh received vaccines. India sees international cooperation in the area of fight against Covid-19 as its duty. New Delhi has played the role of the first responder in the region.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on January 28 attended 23rd GoM meeting on COVID-19 in Delhi. In the meeting, Vardhan said, "70% of our COVID19 cases are in Maharashtra and Kerala. So far, 153 cases of UK variant have been detected in India."
