India's automotive might and prowess was put on display during the 72nd Republic Day celebrations. A massive car rally was organised on January 26 to mark the occasion of 72nd Republic Day of India. Several supercars and classic cars were part of the Republic Day safety drive. Vintage cars also took part in the rally. The rally was commenced from Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and it concluded at Raymond Ground in Thane.
President Ram Nath Kovind on January 26 hosted 'At Home' reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of Republic Day. In view of the pandemic, the guests are trimmed amid the need to maintain social distancing norms. The 'At Home' reception was attended by Vice President V Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among other dignitaries. Chiefs of armed forces were also present at the reception.
Tripura's Arshiya Das, a ten-year-old girl chess genius, was awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on January 25. Arshiya attended the PM's video conference along with her parents from the conference hall of the office of District Magistrate west Tripura district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually interacted with 32 winners from across the country via video conference. Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, District Magistrate of west Tripura district felicitated Arshiya and expressed that it is a great honour for the state of Tripura. Arshiya is the first player from the northeast states to win a gold medal at the Asian School Chess Tournament 2019.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with senior officials from the Home Ministry to take stock of the law and order situation in the national capital, following intense clashes between protesting farmers and Delhi police that even reached the Red Fort. The home minister ordered additional forces in Delhi. This comes after the Ministry ordered the suspension of internet services at Delhi's border points - Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and areas adjoining these protest hubs due to the tense security situation in the national capital. Earlier, wielding sticks and clubs and holding the tricolour and union flags, tens of thousands of farmers atop tractors broke barriers, clashed with police and entered the city from various points to lay siege to the Red Fort and climb the flagpole on Republic Day on Tuesday. A protesting farmer died after his tractor overturned at ITO during the farmers’ tractor parade on Tuesday, police said. Watch the full video for more details.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that Superintendent of Police, Collector and SDOP were immediately suspended related to Morena incident in which 20 people have died. He said, 'It is a sad and serious incident. CM had clarified that such incidents cannot be tolerated. SP, Collector and SDOP were immediately suspended. The local distillery will also be investigated.' The death toll in Madhya Pradesh spurious liquor tragedy has mounted to 20 on January 13. Several people from Manpur and Pahawali villages got hospitalized after falling sick due to consumption of poisonous liquor. Probe is underway and more details are awaited in this regard.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met a delegation from Ladakh in Delhi on Jan 06. A member of the delegation, Thupstan Chhewang said, "Home Minister said that under leadership of Prime Minister Modi, government is committed to protection of Ladakh's land, culture and development. After fulfilling the decades-old demand of people for UT status to Ladakh, government has shown its commitment."
The preparations are underway ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Manipur visit. Security personnel are deployed at public meeting venue at Hapta Kangjeibung. State Chief Minister, N Biren Singh said, "Manipur is ready to welcome Amit Shah. He is a true friend of Manipur and the key person behind ILP (Inner Line Permit) being extended to State."
