The Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed multiple products such the Him-Taapak heating devices and snow melters to help Indian Army jawans deployed in extremely low temperatures. One such device, the Him Tapak space heating device ‘Bukhari’ will help jawans in areas such as Eastern Ladakh and Siachen battle the extreme cold conditions. ‘The Indian Army has placed orders worth ₹420 crores to the manufacturers of this device and they would be deployed in all new habitats of Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where the temperature is low,’ Director of DRDO’s Defence Institute for Physiology and Allied Sciences Dr Varshney said. Colonel (Retd) Narendra 'Bull' Kumar, who helped Indian Army secure Siachen glacier, passed away on December 31 at Army Research and Referral (R and R) hospital. Kumar was 87 and was suffering from several age-related ailments. Colonel Kumar was instrumental in convincing India's military/ political leadership about the strategic importance of the Siachen glacier. With inputs from Colonel Kumar's maps, Indian Army launched Operation Meghdoot in 1984, which secured the glacier and prevented it from an evident Pakistan aggression.

On Jan 15, President Ram Nath Kovind made the first contribution towards the construction of Ram Mandir, which is to be built in UP's Ayodhya. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) working president, Alok Kumar said, "He is the first citizen of the country so we went to him to initiate this drive. He donated a sum of Rs 5,01,000." Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also made the contribution for construction of Ram Mandir. He handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to a leader of Vishva Hindu Parishad. He said, "I am grateful to be part of such mission." Ram Mandir is to be built at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi in UP's Ayodhya.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on January 19 said that the government has decided to rename the dragon fruit as 'Kamalam' since it resembles to lotus. According to the CM, the word dragon fruit sounded inappropriate and so the Gujarat government has decided the fruit be called Kamalam. "Farmers say it looks like lotus and that is the reason we have renamed it 'Kamalam. So, the Gujarat government has decided to call the fruit Kamalam," said Chief Minister Rupani. Appreciating the government's decision, a shopkeeper in Ahmedabad said, "It's good that the government has decided to rename the fruit as Kamalam. India and China keep fighting. So, it's better to name it as Indian fruit." Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat in July 2019 had praised the farmers of Kutch for the cultivation of dragon fruit so that India can be self-reliant.
BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya reacted on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement calling the party "more dangerous than Naxals". He said that BJP doesn't need CM Banerjee's certificate that it is dangerous or not.
