A group of people, misbehaved with employees of Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza in Rajasthan on January 19. They were allegedly the supporters of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MP Hanuman Beniwal. Miscreants also vandalised a toll booth when a boom barrier blocked their way while they were crossing the toll. Toll manager, Jawed said, "They were going towards Delhi. Upon being told that it is Hanuman Beniwal, employees let him through but 2-3 vehicles were tailing him. So, Beniwal and his supporters vandalised toll and threatened them. They did not even pay the toll tax."
Death toll mounted to 15 in Surat's hit and run case on January 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences on the truck accident tragedy. He also announced to give ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF (Prime Minister's National Relief Fund) to next of the kin of the deceased. And Rs 50,000 each would be given to those injured. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 Lakhs each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Surat. The labourers were sleeping on the pavement of the Palod village, when the truck driver lost his control and drove it over the sleeping workers. All the deceased hailed from Rajasthan. 13 people died on spot.
Fifteen migrant labourers from Rajasthan sleeping by the roadside died after a truck ran over them on Jan 18 in Gujarat's Surat district. The incident took place near Kosamba village, around 60 km from Surat. “The truck was on its way to Mandvi from Kim. The driver lost control of the vehicle after it hit sugarcane hanging out of the tractor trolley coming from the opposite direction,” said a police official. Twelve died on the spot while three of the eight injured died in a nearby hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ex-gratia of Rs two lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund would be given to the next of kin of each person killed in the accident and Rs 50,000 would be given to each injured. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya reacted on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement calling the party "more dangerous than Naxals". He said that BJP doesn't need CM Banerjee's certificate that it is dangerous or not. Speaking to ANI, Ranjan Banerjee said, "I thank BJP for giving me this opportunity to serve the people of the state. We need to bring industries here so that people can get employment." Bengal is going for polls in the mid of 2021.
Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that she would contest the upcoming state assembly election from Nandigram, now her former aide turned BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has hit back. With new infections, the COVID tally of the country stood at 1,06,10,883. Which includes 1,92,308 active cases. 1,02,65,706 patients have been discharged across the country. With 151 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 1,52,869.

The shopkeepers of Chandigarh are expecting rebate in taxes from the upcoming budget. The COVID-19 pandemic last year has halted the world as successive countrywide lockdowns to curb the virus impacted the shopkeepers. On January 19, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the first part of the budget session will start on January 29 and continue till February 15, and the second part of the session will be from March 8 to April 8. Birla said that Rajya Sabha will function from 9 am to 2 pm and Lok Sabha from 4 pm to 9 pm with Zero Hour and Question Hour. Members of Parliament have been requested to undergo an RT-PCR test against COVID-19 ahead of the budget session, he said. The union budget will be presented on February 1.

Congress leader Ahmed Patel passed away in early hours of Nov 25. He died due to multiple organ failure after testing Covid positive last month. In a tweet, his son, Faisal Patel confirmed that the Rajya Sabha MP died at 3.30 AM. He was admitted to Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital on November 15. On October 1, Patel announced on Twitter that he had contracted coronavirus. Patel is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. PM Modi shared his condolences upon hearing the news of Patel’s death. He tweeted: ‘May Ahmed Bhai’s soul rest in peace’. Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter sharing his condolences. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who was undergoing treatment at a Gurugram hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, breathed his last after multi-organ failure in the wee hours of November 25, his son Faisal confirmed. He was 71. In a tweet, Faisal said that the Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat died at 3.30 am. "With profound grief and sorrow, I regret to announce the sad and untimely demise of my father, Mr. Ahmed Patel at 25/11/2020, 03:30 AM. After testing positive for COVID-19 around a month back, his health worsened further due to multiple organ failures. May Allah grant him Jannatul firdaus, inshallah," he tweeted, requesting all their well-wishers to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations by avoiding mass gatherings. "...also maintain social distancing norms at all times," Faisal tweeted. Patel, also the Treasurer of the Indian National Congress, had tested positive for the COVID-19 on October 1 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on November 15. On October 1, Patel, while disclosing that he was tested positive for the COVID-19, had urged all those who came in contact with him in past few days to undergo self-isolation.
