On Jan 02, the Himachal Pradesh Police rescued over 300 tourists stranded near the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang after fresh snowfall.
Tourists were stranded between South Portal of Atal Tunnel and Solang Nalla in Manali.
The Lahaul-Spiti Police in coordination with the Kullu Police sent vehicles through the tunnel in the evening.
All stranded tourists were rescued from Dhundhi and South Portal of the tunnel till 12.33 am and were taken to safer places in Manali.
As per forecast by the Meteorological Department, snowfall around the tunnel is expected in the coming days.
The world's longest tunnel at an altitude of 10,040 feet, Atal Tunnel has become a tourist destination since it was made open to public in October 2020.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a webinar on Atal Rohtang Tunnel on Jan 11 that was organised by Border Road Organisation (BRO). "The inauguration of Atal Tunnel under the adverse conditions we faced last year specifically COVID-19 is a testament to the determination of the executing team, especially the engineers, which consummated this project," said Rajnath Singh.
Kullu district police evacuated a total of 82 stranded tourist vehicles from South Portal area of Atal Tunnel on January 03. Heavy snowfall trapped the vehicles, throwing lives out of gear. On January 02, a rescue team saved over 300 tourists from the region.

Himachal Pradesh DGP, Sanjay Kundu said, "Enforcement Directorate attached assets of worth Rs 194.17 crores belonging to a Solan-based private University in connection with alleged fake degrees scam. We've arrested 8 people including key accused and two persons are in judicial custody. Investigation revealed that degrees are sold in 17 states. We're working with Financial Intelligence Unit - India, ED and Income tax in this case. Probe on."

India Meteorological Department (Bhubaneswar) Director, HR Biswas said that hot weather conditions prevailing in Bhubaneswar and in some districts of Odisha. He said that Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded highest temperature for February 27. "Bhubaneswar's airport area recorded 40.6 degree Celsius which is highest in Odisha and it may be highest in India," he said.
