Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the convocation ceremony of Visva-Bharati University. The event took place via video conferencing on February 19. While addressing the event, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "The New Education Policy (NEP) will gallop our journey to becoming 'Vishwa-guru'. The policy is turning out to be a game changer in much needed education reforms."

The fight for elections in Bengal has reached sweet shops, capturing the mood of the season. Popular retailers are churning out new delicacies with two slogans written on them. Balaram Mallick Radharaman Mallick has launched sandesh with slogans written on them. 'Khela Hobe' is written on white-green sandesh, 'Jai Shri Ram' sandesh is in white-orange. “Whenever there is any big event coming, we introduce special sweets. With elections coming, we thought of making sweets with slogans,” Sudip Mallick, owner of Balaram Mallick Radharaman Mallick Sweets retail chain, said. 'Khela Hobe' (Game On) is a slogan given by TMC as scores of its leaders switched to BJP. On the other hand, ‘Jai Shri Ram' - BJP's popular slogan has turned into the party's battle-cry ahead of the polls. Elections to 294-member West Bengal Assembly will begin on March 27. The eight-phase polling will conclude on April 29, results on May 2. Bengal is likely to see a triangular contest with TMC, Congress-Left alliance and BJP in the fray.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee released the list of Trinamool Congress candidates for the upcoming assembly polls for 291 seats. The rest of the three seats in North Bengal will see candidates from the Bimal Gurung faction of the GJM. The Chief Minister said that she would contest from Nandigram only and Sovandeb Chattopadhyay will be contesting from Bhawanipore seat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired BJP’s central election committee meeting in Delhi. BJP’s CEC met to finalise party candidates ahead of elections. PM Modi, Home minister Amit Shah, Defence minister Rajnath Singh were present in the meeting. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also seen in the meeting. The meeting was held at BJP headquarters in the national capital. This comes ahead of polls in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. While speaking to media in Kolkata on March 02, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh spoke ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls. Ghosh said, "Core Committee discussed candidates for Phase 1 and 2 polls. It will be declared soon. We also reviewed the upcoming election rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Yogi Adityanath in the state."

It has been launched to identify and contain the new mutant variant of COVID-19. The number of persons found infected with the mutant UK strain of COVID-19 rose to 109.
The first consignment of 'Covaxin', the COVID-19 vaccine by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Jan 13. Three boxes of 'Covaxin' are also being taken to Kurukshetra in Haryana from Delhi airport. The COVID vaccination drive will start in India from Jan 16.
