The Army jawans were seen marching as part of their rehearsal.

Wives of three martyrs received awards during the full dress rehearsal of the Army Day Parade.

The martyred jawans had lost their lives in Galwan Valley clash in Ladakh.

The Army Day is celebrated across the country on January 15 every year.

On this day in 1949, General KM Cariappa became the first Indian to take charge of Indian Army.

154 monks have been tested COVID-19 positive in Gyuto Tantric Monastery in Himachal Pradesh's Sidhbari. A total of 330 monks have been tested so far. The monastery has been declared as 'containment zone'. Kangra CMO Dr GD Gupta said, "Following initial cases on Feb 23rd, 330 monks tested so far for COVID-19 and 154 of them tested positive at Gyuto Tantric Monastery, Sidhbari. One monk in critical condition shifted to Tanda Medical College, others in isolation in the monastery itself. Monks who have been home-isolated, had travelled from Karnataka and Delhi during new year celebrations."

Of the many initiatives taken up by the Indian Army to improve the quality of life in Kashmir Valley, Kashmir Super 30 coaching education project is one major highlight. Under this project, Medical, Engineering, NEET aspirants, who are not financially sound, get required guidance and support to crack the entrance exams. Executed by National Integrity and Educational Development Organization (NIEDO), Indian Army oversees the overall administration and logistics. After multiple written exams and screenings, only 30 students get selected from JandK for this programme. These students get trained for 12 months before they sit in the entrance exams. It not just provides an equal opportunity to the under-privileged but also reinvigorate the process of peace, progress and stability in the Union Territory.

The day was chosen as recognition of the services rendered by the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE who retired on this day in 1953. 'Nobody wants unsettled border': Army chief Naravane on India-China LAC row

Army Chief General MM Naravane spoke about India's position on the standoff with China in Ladakh and said that the resolve of safeguarding the country's interest was shown. The Army chief added that India's engagements with China should continue as they have in the past. “Whatever we did has shown the resolve that we have in maintaining our interest foremost. With this approach our relations with China would develop along the path we wish. As two neighbours, who would like to have peace and tranquility on their borders. Engineer, innovator turned education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has developed a solar heated military tent for the Indian Army at Galwan Valley. The solar heated tent was developed at Himalayan Institute of Alternatives in Ladakh. The tent is highly insulated on the north, east and west direction and on the south there is a heat storage bank which collects the sunlight in the day time and releases heat at night. All parts of the tent are light in weight which can be easily carried by the soldiers. For 10 jawans, fully portable all parts weigh less than 30 kgs. For soldiers stationed in strategically important and high-altitude locations like the Black Top Hill or Siachen Glacier, this tent offers comfortable and non-polluting shelter. It replaces tons of kerosene and pollution climate change.
