72nd battalion of Border Security Force jawans celebrated Lohri at the Poonch camp on January 13. Jawans lit a bonfire and danced around it on folk music. The customary eatables like peanuts, popcorn and other snacks were also present as a part of the celebration. It is known as a festival of farmers in Northern India and is observed a night before Makar Sankranti.
Agitating farmers Wednesday burnt copies of the contentious farm laws to mark the festival of Lohri. One lakh copies of the three agri laws were burnt at the Singhu border alone, said Paramjeet Singh of Samyukta Kisan Morcha. Lohri is widely celebrated in Punjab and Haryana to mark the harvesting of Rabi crops. People traditionally celebrate it by circling around bonfires, throwing food items -- peanuts, puffed rice, popcorn etc -- into the fire, singing folk songs, dancing, and feasting on the festive food. The Border Security Force (BSF) organised a free medical camp in J-K's Rajouri on January 15. It was held under the 'Civic Action Programme' in Dhangri block. The camp provides free treatment and medicines to under-privileged families who cannot afford treatment. It was organised by 59th Battalion of BSF.

Road safety month awareness camp has been organised in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch. The '32nd National Road Safety Month-2021' was organised by the Motor Vehicles Department in Jhalas area of Poonch. The transport authorities properly provided the awareness about driving rules and road safety.
Ceasefire violation was initiated by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on January 16. Regular shelling has been a major problem for the locals. People living in the Balakot sector urged government to not concentrate on elections instead on the people living here. One of the locals said, "The Central government has given the full emphasis on elections, but elections will not resolve people's problems. People want roads, bunkers, they are disturbed due to the regular shelling activities. The emphasis should not be on elections instead authorities should think about the people living here."
In the recent times, Kashmiri youth have chosen art to express their thoughts. A 19-year-old girl Ritambra from Kathua district has astounded everyone with her artwork. Without any guidance from teacher, Ritambra has mastered in sketching. Her constant source of encouragement has been her parents and sibling. During COVID induced lockdown, she got a chance to shine her art and now she has become a sensation. From former President APJ Abdul Kalam and PM Narendra Modi to sports and film celebrities, Ritambra has made portraits of several known personality. Ritambra's father Sukh Dev Singh wanted her to join a professional filed but after seeing his daughter's skills, Singh motivated and encouraged her to sharpen the art form. Ritambra has become an inspiration for girls sitting idle in their homes to come up with their talent and skill.
A music talent show enthralled an energetic jam pack audience in Kashmir. The event was organised by Kash Events and Panaash Productions in association with Hype Kashmir. It aimed to promote Kashmiri cultural and traditional activities and to provide a platform to young artists to highlight their talent. Young artists including singers, poets and musicians participated in the event. Despite the harsh weather, the musical talent show got good response from the audience.

Farmers on January 20 assembled at Harike Pattan in Tarn Taran district to head to Delhi, ahead of their proposed tractor rally on Republic Day. Protesting farmers and their leaders have said that they will take out a massive tractor rally in Delhi on January 26 in protest of the three farm laws. Farmers have been protesting on different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
A Punjab artist painted portraits of US President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris on the eve of their inauguration. Jagjot Singh Rubal painted the portraits as a gift to the leaders on their swearing-in. The artist also expressed his wish to display his work in the White House. Rubal took 20 days to complete the portraits painted on joint canvas using acrylic colours. He had earlier received a letter of appreciation from PM Modi for his portrait. The artist from Amritsar currently holds as many as 10 world records. Biden-Harris' inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 20 at the US Capitol. The event is set to be a star-studded one with celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, others.
