COVID protocols including social distancing norms were flouted at the market. Karnataka is observing Janta Curfew during the weekend to curb the spread of the virus. A two-week lockdown will remain in place across the state between May 10 andMay 24.
In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 infection, Goa government had announced a two-week curfew in the state from May 9 till May 23. Essential services have been exempted, grocery shops are allowed to remain open from 7am-1pm and for restaurant only takeaway orders are allowed from 7am- 7pm. RT-PCR negative test report or vaccination (both doses) certificate has been made mandatory for tourists visiting Goa.

India and the European Union (EU) on Saturday announced their decision to resume negotiations for a balanced and comprehensive trade agreement after a gap of eight years and unveiled an ambitious connectivity partnership, during a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of 27 member nations of the bloc. In his remarks, Modi invited the EU to support a proposal by India and South Africa to waive patents on COVID-19 vaccines so that there can be equitable vaccine access for the entire world, officials said. The meeting, participated by leaders of EU member states as well as the top leadership of the EU, also decided to launch negotiations on two other key agreements on investment protection and geographical indications.

With upsurge in country's COVID-19 cases, many organisations have come forward to offer their best during these tough times. Telangana's Calvary Temple has been converted into a COVID care centre. The 300-bed capacity centre was inaugurated by TRS leader and MLC K Kavitha. It is a highly equipped centre with oxygen support and has round the clock presence of doctors and nurses. The temple association is looking forward to further increase the bed capacity to 1,000 in coming days.
A Hyderabad-based start-up claims to have developed a portable and affordable oxygen generator. India is currently facing an acute shortage of medical oxygen amid a huge rise in Covid-19 cases. The Phi Factory co-founder Praveen Gorakavi said that the machine can support two patients for six hours, or one for twelve hours. 'The Phi Factory' has created a portable oxygenerator, which works on Hydrogen Peroxide, under the name 'Project Vayuputra'. Vayuputra has been developed with an objective to support COVID-19 patients who are under home isolation. Price of this oxygenerator would be around Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 2,600 that includes the oxygenerator along with 10x2 liter bottles of Hydrogen Peroxide.
