Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) SS Deswal met Indian women team players who won 'National Wushu Championship 2021' and extended warm wishes to them. '29th National Wushu Championship' held at Chandigarh University from Feb 25 to Mar 2.
In a joint effort, ITBP personnel and SDRF managed to remove obstacles from the front of lake to widen the flow of water. Water from the lake, formed due to the disaster, is now being discharged with good force and speed downstream. Teams working towards widening the flow of water were equipped with mountaineering equipments. From past 7 days, 5 feet reduction in the water level of Lake on Rishi Ganga was observed. A glacier burst in Chamoli district led to the calamity which claimed more than 100 lives.
Rescue ops continued in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli following the February 7 glacial disaster. So far, rescuers have recovered at least 70 bodies while several others are still missing. ITBP, SDRF continued to remove trees and boulders from the lake formed after glacier burst. Experts have inspected the site, while a constant vigil is being maintained on the lake. On Wednesday night, excavation work was carried out at the Tapovan tunnel in Chamoli. Water was pumped out of the tunnel and excavation up to 180 meters was complete. The devastating flash flood demolished a 13.2 MW hydel project along the river. It caused extensive damage to NTPC's Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project along Dhauliganga.

The '69th Senior National Volleyball (Men and Women) Championships' started at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium in Bhubaneswar on March 05. Over 1200 volleyball players (both men and women) are participating in the tournament from 28 states and 8 Union Territories. For the first time, players from Union Territory Ladakh also participated in the championships. The Championships are being held under the aegis of the parent body Volleyball Federation of India (VFI). The tournament started on Mar 05 and will end on Mar 11.
As India is set to start the vaccination program against COVID-19 on January 16, millions of doses of Covishield vaccine, manufactured by Pune's Serum Institute of India, have reached the length and breadth of the country. Himachal Pradesh has received 93,000 shots on Thursday evening as part of the first consignment which was dispatched from SII's Pune facility. The hilly state has more than 800 active cases of COVID-19. Kerala, which is struggling to keep rising cases under control also received the first batch of the vaccine in Mallapuram. The southern state has more than 65,000 active cases of coronavirus, the highest in the country. Ladakh also got 11,500 doses of the Covishield vaccine as part of the first phase of the vaccination program. BJP MP Jamyang Namgyal and state Health Department Director Dr Phuntsog Angchuk received the vaccine at Leh airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the vaccination program at 10:30 AM on January 16 with 3 crore health and frontline workers being listed to get the shots in the first phase.
As Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met top BJP leaders in Delhi amid speculation of revolt against him by state party MLAs, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan dismissed the rumours of "unhappiness over the CM", and said that Trivendra Singh Rawat continues to be the Chief Minister. Chauhan also clarified that there is no official legislature party meeting called for tomorrow.
Ahead of the Assembly Election in Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hired five helicopters for the party leaders' campaign. The saffron party is aiming to win 100 plus seats in Assam and has outscored the Congress and other parties in terms of choppers for the election campaign. The assembly polls in Assam will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
