Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on demands for reservations by several communities said a 3-member high-level committee will be formed to look into the matter. "We've appointed a high-level committee to look into all reports, demands for reservation by communities, increase in 50% constitutional provision, Supreme Court judgements and legal framework -how to go ahead with demands and give social justice to the people," said Karnataka Home Minister. Basavaraj Bommai added, "So a 3-member high level committee has been appointed. It will be headed by a retired High Court judge who will be its Chairman. There will be one administrator and one person who will be well versed in social science."
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on March 03. Pramod Sawant took the Covishield jab at PHC Sankhali. India provided 25,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine to the island nation Saint Lucia. The consignment of coronavirus vaccine reached under India's 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative. The 40,000 doses of 'Made in India' coronavirus vaccines also arrived in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It was received by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on March 01. They received Serum Institute of India (SII)'s Covishield doses today. Earlier, India supplied COVID-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh under the 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
Phase 2 of India's Covid-19 vaccination drive was launched in high-profile manner on March 1 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming one of the first beneficiaries. The second phase of the programme involves inoculation of those aged 60 and above, and those aged 45+ with comorbidities. The process for registration involves entry of mobile number and identity card details on the government's dedicated Co-win platform. An ex-serviceman, who was a star medal awardee during the India-China war, now drives an autorickshaw in Hyderabad for a living. Sheikh Abdul Kareem, participated in the India-China war and was posted in Lahaul area. He has now urged the government to provide a house to ex-servicemen who fought to defend the country. ‘Despite winning a good service medal, I have not even received any sort of pension or any financial support from the government. Sheik Abdul Kareem received a special award for his contribution in the1971 Indo-China war. During Indira Gandhi reign due to surplus of army personnel, several were removed from their postings. The 71-year-old served in the army for 9 years but now is homeless and is fighting daily for a living. Kareem requested the government for financial support in the form of pension and shelter.
