The BJP has swept the municipal polls in Gujarat with a winning performance in elections to six municipal corporations of Gujarat, winning Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Surat. Disha Ravi, the 22-year-old climate activist arrested February 13 was granted bail by a Delhi Sessions Court on Tuesday afternoon with two sureties of ₹ 1 lakh each. A meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office today to review the coronavirus situation in the country amid a surge in cases over the past few days. Lakha Sidhana, who is wanted in connection with the violence in Delhi on Republic Day, attended a public meeting in Punjab's Bathinda on Tuesday in support of the ongoing farmers' agitation.

Lakha Sidhana, the gangster turned activist who is wanted in connection with the violence in Delhi on Republic Day, was seen at a meeting in Punjab's Bathinda in support of the ongoing farmers' agitation. Delhi police had earlier announced a reward of 1 lakh rupees for any information on Sidhana. Protesters had clashed with the police during the violence on Republic day; some of the protesters had even reached the Red Fort and hoisted religious flags on its domes. "Security cover provided to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal remains unchanged," informed Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal after some news reports said that the security provided to Chief Minister has been scaled down. Delhi Police PRO said that there has been no reduction in the number of security personnel provided to the Chief Minister. The 'bhoomi poojan' ceremony of the Central Vista Avenue was performed by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs here at India Gate on Thursday. With this ceremony, the work has started for the development and redevelopment of Central Vista Avenue. The Central Vista Avenue starting from North and South Block to India Gate, which includes the Rajpath, its adjoining lawns and canals, rows of tree, Vijay Chowk and the India Gate plaza, is a 3 km long stretch. The government has decided to refurbish and improve the avenue, as part of the comprehensive transformation of Central Vista. The government approved a proposal for the development of Central Vista Avenue with an estimated cost of Rs 608 crores. Moreover, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has been entrusted to carry out this important work. The components of development work under Phase-I include refurbishing of Landscaping and lawns. Green cover being increased from 3,50,000 sqm to about 3,90,000 sqm, proper public amenities with toilets, drinking water facilities and vending area are being provided at 10 locations for visitors and tourists, among others.
Israeli ambassador to India, Ron Malka asserted that there is full cooperation between New Delhi and Tel Aviv to investigate the explosion. He suspected that Friday's blast outside the Israeli Embassy in Delhi could be a terror attack. He added that his country has full trust in Indian authorities. A low-intensity explosion took place near the Israel Embassy on Friday. No injuries were reported in the incident, however, windscreens of several cars parked in the vicinity of the Embassy on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road were found damaged. The explosion took place not far from Vijay Chowk, where several VVIPS including Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were in attendance during the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony.

Rescue ops continued in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli following the February 7 glacial disaster. So far, rescuers have recovered at least 70 bodies while several others are still missing. ITBP, SDRF continued to remove trees and boulders from the lake formed after glacier burst. Experts have inspected the site, while a constant vigil is being maintained on the lake. On Wednesday night, excavation work was carried out at the Tapovan tunnel in Chamoli. Water was pumped out of the tunnel and excavation up to 180 meters was complete. The devastating flash flood demolished a 13.2 MW hydel project along the river. It caused extensive damage to NTPC's Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project along Dhauliganga.

The Union Home Ministry has directed a phased closure of two special and temporary COVID care centres in the city in view of "continuous decline" in coronavirus cases, officials said on Tuesday. While the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel COVID hospital located in the Delhi Cantonment area is managed by the DRDO, the Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre operational in south Delhi's Chhattarpur area is managed by the ITBP. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has issued a fresh warning to the Modi government over the farm laws. Addressing a rally in Sikar, Rajasthan, Tikait said that farmers would now launch a fresh tractor rally to the Parliament. ‘This time the call will be for parliament gherao. We will announce it and then march towards Delhi. This time 40 lakh tractors will be there instead of four lakh tractor,’ Tikait said. He appealed to the government to repeal the laws and make a law on MSP failing which they would plough the parks near India Gate and grow crops there as a mark of protest. Farmers have been protesting against the Centre’s farm laws alleging that they will benefit corporate and harm the interests of farmers.
