Bhutan, a small country that borders China and India, has only seen one death as a result of the coronavirus, compared to the worldwide death toll which is nearing 2.5 million deaths. CNN’s Fareed Zakaria looks at how Bhutan was able to curve the pandemic.
During a press briefing on January 28, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava informed that over 55 lakh doses of vaccines have been gifted neighbours and extended neighbourhood since January 20. MEA spokesperson, said, "rom Jan 20, we've gifted over 55 lakh doses of vaccines to our neighbours and extended neighborhood-1.5 lakh to Bhutan, 1 lakh to Maldives, Mauritius and Bahrain, 10 lakhs to Nepal, 20 lakhs to Bangladesh, 15 lakhs to Myanmar, 50,000 to Seychelles, 5 lakh to Sri Lanka on request. Over the next few days, we've planned to gift further quantities of 1 lakh doses to Oman, 5 lakh doses to CARICOM countries, 2 lakhs to Nicaragua and 2 lakh doses to Pacific Island states."
India is supplying COVID-19 vaccines being manufactured in the country to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh but has not received any request from Pakistan. Addressing the weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said there is an interest in accessing vaccines from India, which is the global hub of vaccine production. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated that India's vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used for the benefit of all humanity to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. "I am not aware of any request for the supply of Indian-made vaccines to Pakistan on a G2G basis or commercial basis," Srivastava said answering a query. Watch the full video for more details.

As the vaccination drive has already been kicked off in the Himalayan nation, the inoculation drive for elderly and most vulnerable age groups will commence from next month. Nepal has received the first batch of one million COVISHIELD Vaccine developed by Serum Institute of India on Sunday via Air India flight. The vaccines would be used to inoculate people above 60 years of age, which is 8.73 per cent of Nepal's population, in the vaccination drive that will begin on March 7. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, there are 2,652,258 elderly people above 60 years in the country. On January 21st 2021, Nepal had received a total of One Million COVISHIELD Vaccine from India under grant assistance.
