As COVID-19 cases spread across India like wildfire, several politicos on April 16 tested positive. Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Shiromani Akali Dal MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal, an independent MLA from Vadgam Assembly Constituency Jignesh Mevani have tested positive for COVID-19. The leaders urged people who were in their contact to get tested. Country reported highest ever spike of over 2.17 lakh COVID-19 cases on April 16.
Congress Working Committee has asked the workers across the country to help poor people, who are affected by the COVID pandemic, informed party national General Secretary KC Venugopal on April 17. "Following the meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) over COVID-19, the committee approved a statement highlighting the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the country and the need for a comprehensive action plan. The working committee has asked the workers and leaders across the country to help poor people of the country who are affected by the pandemic. CWC has asked PPCs (Pradesh Congress Committees) to set up control rooms to assist people," said Venugopal.
Congress Leader KC Venugopal assured that the party is totally prepared for the upcoming assembly elections. "Congress is totally prepared for elections. We will appeal to the people for change, for good governance. Alliance for Assam has been finalised. In Kerala and West Bengal, the alliance is almost finalized. In Tamil Nadu, talks are underway on alliance," he said.
Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi arrived at Kollam's Thangassery beach to interact with fishermen. Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala and Mullappally Ramachandran accompanied him.
