'Defiant X' Design Revealed for Army's Future Assault Helicopter

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA — Lockheed-owned Sikorski and Boeing released details of the Defiant X helicopter, which they plan to submit for the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft competition, on Monday, Jan.

26.

The U.S. Army in December issued a request for proposals in its competition to build the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft, which it expects to be "twice as fast and be able to fly twice as far" as conventional aircraft.

A contract is expected to be awarded sometime in 2022, with the new aircraft fielded by 2030.

Boeing said in its press release that the Defiant X is designed to provide improved performance with the same footprint of the UH-60 Black Hawk with minimal alteration of current tactics, techniques, procedures, training or infrastructure.
