With an aim to provide robust cricket coaching and nurture young talent, former cricketer Suresh Raina inaugurated MS Dhoni's cricket academy in Ahmedabad on February 15.
The academy will comprise state-of-the-art coaching techniques to teach and develop budding cricketers in the city.
Academy will expand its footprint in other states soon.
About a month before IPL 2021, which began on April 9, Suresh Raina – a batsman and player for Chennai Super Kings – visited the Sanspareils Greenlands or SG factory in Uttar Pradesh where most of India’s top cricketers get their bats. Take a look inside, at the racks of clefts imported from England, the fitting of the handle, the intricacies of making a blade. And hear Raina talk about his first bat and what the bat means to him.

Actor Geeta Basra, her cricketer husband Harbhajan Singh are expecting their second child. Geeta took to Instagram and made the announcement with a set of cute family photos. Pictures showed Harbhajan, their daughter Hinaya Heer Plaha and Geeta posing together. In the pictures, Hinaya is seen holding a T-shirt which says: 'Soon to be a big sister’. Congratulatory messages poured in; Neha Dhupia, Suresh Raina were among the first to wish. The couple married in October 2015 and welcomed Hinaya the next year, in July. Geeta and Harbhajan met in 2007 when she had just begun her career in Hindi films. The actor has worked in films such as Dil Diya Hai (2006) and The Train (2007).

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, queue of ambulances seen waiting outside Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad on April 14 to admit patients. "10 days earlier, about 2800-2900 cases reported daily. But these days we are getting 4500-4600 daily cases. Emergency flow increased to 50%. Almost more cases are corona related. There are 625 ambulances working for 108 services. Also, we had added 60 more ambulances. Hospital wait time has exceeded as it's not the duty of 108 to assign the hospitals to corona patients. One has to call Municipal Corporation," said Hospital's Head of Emergency Satish Patel.
In a joint venture of Municipal Corporation and Neuberg Supratech, drive-through RT-PCR testing has been launched at GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad on April 14 to ramp up COVID testing amid rising cases. Those who came for the test, have to scan QR code. After registration, their vehicles are allowed inside for testing. Director of Neuberg Supratech Laboratory, Dr Sandip Shah said, "It's a joint venture and first time initiative in the country. We are assumed to take around 5000-6000 samples through drive through testing and disposing off a car within 3 minutes. We will provide reports within 36 hours. It will help to contain COVID by limiting the rush."
As the country is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, long queue of ambulances seen outside 1200-beded Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Oxygen is being administered to patients in the ambulance only. On March 12, state reported 6,021 new infections and 55 deaths. Currently, Gujarat has over 30,000 actives cases of coronavirus, out of which 7,165 are in Ahmedabad alone. Gujarat is among the 10 worst-affected states in India due to pandemic.
After a newspaper in Gujarat claimed that NCP chief Sharad Pawar and party leader Praful Patel met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Ahmedabad recently amid political crisis in Maharashtra, NCP's Mumbai chief Nawab Malik dismissed the news and said that no such meeting has taken place. "A newspaper in Gujarat published a piece of news that (Sharad) Pawar Sahib and Praful Patel met Amit Shah. For the last two days, rumours are being spread on Twitter. No such meeting took place," said The rumour, however, was intensified by Shah himself who during a public rally where he said that everything cannot be made public.
